Short Shifter rubbing/rattling on exhaust?????
Had a GSR short shifter installed in my 99 SI yesterday and the shifter is rattling on the exhaust. Not very bad but every now and then I hear it. And when they installed it they showed me. Anyone else have this problem or know of a way around it?

its probably hitting a heat shield on your exhaust piping, so just take out the heat shield if thats the problem

Did you double check to see if the shiftlink that is connected to your shifter is tight? Sometimes it is lose and the washer rattles around a little

The rattle is a common problem for short shifters. It all depends on the individual car whether yours will hit or not. I put one on my car and it rattled, I adjusted the exhaust hanger and it now rattles less. Put on a cat-back exhaust that doesn't have a heatshield and no rattle.

aha...well that would be the culprit then...
Im not gonna change it though...I'll just keep the annoying little f*cker until the swap and then get a better one.

i have always seen them hit the resonator, not the heatshield. the shift shifter is longer on the bottom side of the fulcrum point, thus making your shifts shorts, and your shifter rub the resonator.

It also depends on the design of the short shifter. Its all about the length ratio from below to above the ball pivot. The ones that are fairly long on the underside can have problems with the counterweight part rattling on the exhaust. In most cases is when the car still has the stock exhaust.
