Short Ram Intake installation help
I got 2 air boxes and the one w/ the stock filter obviously comes out and the intake connects, but there is another box further down that has nothing in it and the stock pipe rests on. What i want 2 know is if that second box has 2 come out since there is nothing in there? I have a 99 Civic DX.
Thank You

the second box is called the resonater, if your installing a short ram intake, its not needed to take the resonater out. The only time the resonater has to be removed is when you install a cold air intake.

I'd take it out. It doesn't serve a purpos after the intake has been removed for an aftermarket intake. It is the stock resonator, which will make your engine bay look that much nicer when removed.

you'll have to take off your front bumper to remove the resonater.

I didn't have to take out my bumper for my removal. I took out the tire, using the stock jack (at that time), and unbolted part of the wheel well. The resonator can be taken out in pieces, and the part where you pull it out will come out, just with a bit of twisting and rocking out of the lower wheel well.
This method works, and it's better than removing the bumper.

well my boy helped me out and now we c that we have 2 take out the resonator box so it would fit properly, but now i got other issues:
The hood wont close b/c the curve would b sticking up, and there is also no place 2 put in the sensor on the new intake.
If any1 has a short ram on their DX than post pics of it so i can c how its supposed to look.
Thanx

I'd rather spend the 5 minutes taking off my bumper than have to:
Jack the car up
Put it on a jack stand
Take my wheel off
Bend my arms around unbolting it from the wheel well
Slam it around trying to yank it out from behind the bumper
All that would take WAY longer than it takes me to take my bumper off, and may damage things, albeit cosmetically, but I'm ****.

Oh, yeah, you're right, it's different if your car is slammed, though usually you can just slide under it enough to get what you need to get. None of the bolts need to go back in.

Re: (JaeEK)
That picture's small and is crappy - that appears to be the nipple for the valve cover hose - but there should be a hole some place on it (not on a nipple, just a hole, like somebody took a drill bit to the thing) where the IAT will plug into.
EDIT:
PS: I can tell you right now that's not the right intake.
The LX has a Y7 motor in it, in the Y7 throttle body it sticks STRAIGHT up in the air, which means the the intake arm has to have a good ~100-120º turn-around bend on it. That intake is made for a side throttle body, which is why it has the typical ~40º bend or so.
notice how it comes straight up?

Ya it was quick pic there is another nipple on the other side so thats where i figured it would go.
Now how about the fitting under the hood b/c the setup is different from the ex. Whenever i tried lookin for pics it would only show an ex.

That won't fit under the hood, that's what I've been trying to tell you.
It's either for a '92-'95 any trim civic, or if it's '96-'00 it's an EX, because the CX, DX, and LX all had Y7's where the throttle body pointed straight up - your air intake won't make the turn to fit under the hood - you need an intercooler 90º bend coupler or something. That intake's barely pushing a 90º bend.

Re: (JaeEK)
You can also purchase a D16Y8 intake manifold and put that on your car. Your intake would work with that manifold and you might see a bit better throttle response.
Besides the manifold, you will have to get some new hoses and a new rotor and spring for your throttle body.
