There probably won't be any difference besides it sounding nice. lol. I bought my car with one so I really wouldn't know the difference between having one and not having one. These cars are already so good on gas I don't know if there's anything you can do besides swapping your tranny out for a longer geared one.

Honestly i wouldnt. I didnt see any difference besides pretty much loosing some in top end, but got a little down low, and its loud.
I would put my stock intake back in, but i spend so much on mine

cheaper way to go is maybe getting a k&n drop in filter. a lot more airflow than the stock filter, and doesn't cost a lot. i think the civic filter goes for like 60.

Keep the stock intake,, you'll save more gas with it. I tested my civic and it eats more gas with the short ram than with my stock intake.

get a CAI and a AEM bypass valve and a bigger exhaust you'll notice gains I certainly did
The EBAY CAI kits are fine , just trash the filter and get a K&N , AEM dryflow , or AEM paper cone filter, etc.
I paid $25 for my pipe , all one piece on EBAY and used my own filter
you're not gonna notice much gains from a warm air filter like a short ram, I used Injen Short RAM with a blox velocity stack for 3 years and when I switched to the EBAY CAI pipe I noticed bottom end power immediatley
Just make sure to run a bypass valve if you're scared of hydrolock , the newer bypass valves are just that valves, the bypass remains closed until the filter is fully submerged in water (this should never happen) but if it does then the valve has flaps that open under this situation and lets air in until the filter is no longer submerged in water
Or you can remove the resonator box from behind the passenger side bumper and use the J-pipe to get colder air into the stock intake , just keep the stock intake remove the resonator , cut the J-Pipe in half so it's angled to suck in cold air
I can tell without a shadow of a doubt colder air produces more HP, but to see any beneficial gains you should get a less restrictive exhaust , more flow in , more flow out

Re: Short Ram Intake for 1997 civic HX good idea?
My thoughts: Honda has really good engineers. Look at the B18C1 for example, an engineering marvel. Anyway, the HX was designed for the best fuel economy possible. I really doubt much can be done to improve it. It'll probably be right about the same with a short ram.
As for longer gears, I'm pretty sure the HX has really long gears stock, but I've never driven one, so I'm not too sure.
