Shopping for a civic / Need help
Im currently looking to buy my first car, and I have always liked civics so thats what im looking into. While sometimes I like to think/act like I do, I dont know much about cars, so I came here to get some suggestions. My budget is about $5000, but id like to get somethin more around $4000. I have a few civics lined up to go test drive this week, so I was just wondering when you go to check out a car, what things do you look at besides the obvious.
As an example, im going to look at this car tommorow:
HEREhttp://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...st=14 - The aftermarket intake is INJEN, and has TOYO tires/security system.
Tell me what you think. Thanks

the guy wrote that he has V-tech
he probebly doesn't know **** about cars either, so I bet you could bullshit him anything, like "oh, I see the flux capacitor is broken"

ha! yea I was thinking the same. But assuming everything looks good on it/runs good, would you consider getting that for around 5k? which includes a 3 month/5000 mile warranty.

that looks like a pretty nice platform to start w/ it has a d16y8 vtec motor and it looks like a few bolt ons , check to see if the motor leaks any oil from tranny side of the oil pan. drive it until your completely convinced that its worth it , worn out steering components is one of the first things to look at , check to see if the trunk or back window leaks water, go to a car wash and give the roof and rear window a dose of water , alot of used hondas leak water from the rear win./trunk. run a carfax.good luck

d16y8 is the ex motor for the 96-00 civics which was the best motor that came in the civics of that year model. it has about 120-127 hp . d16 being that its 1.6 liters y8 is the code for that block! alot of people will tell you to swap it for a dohc motor but w/ a little boost from a turbo these motors can be pretty impressive. I turboed mine and its a fun daily driver! just dont waste your money on a bunch of bolt on stuff b/c they dont make that much of a diff. in my oppinion.

I went to test drive the car from that link today. I was pretty impressed. Had a few more aftermarket parts then expected. A Neuspeed-Front upper tie bar / full exhaust system+huge muffler / $300 cd player. Short shifter felt great, engine/exhaust sounded great, really fun to drive. $5000, might be able to talk him down more, havnt tried yet. What do you think?
Also, since we hadnt done a history report on car yet, we asked him if the car had ever been wrecked. and he said no, and he showed us VIN # stickers on all doors, hood, trunk, and couple other places, and explained that only Honda puts those stickers all over the car to show that those are the factory parts meaning if it had been wrecked those stickers wouldnt be there.. is that true?

well as far as I KNEW Honda only put vin stickers by windshield, on engine, and back of engine bay. I guess if they all match up no big deal. Sounds like a good find. Go for it!
