Default Shooting Spark Plug

I had an incident today. While driving in my 93 si I heard a bang and a noise that sounded like I had blown a tire. Only thing is nothing was wrong w/ my tires. I pulled over and left the car running. When I popped the hood the cylinder 4 spark plug shot out at me and almost popped me in the eye. I ran and shut off my car. Upon further inspection the spark plug boot was half gone. I will have pics up tomorrow. I don't remember ever hearing anything like this happening. What could cause it?

shitty plugs? maybe they weren't tightened down all the way? did you do anything to your plugs recently, like put in some new cheap ones and not tighten them?? haha, so what was the loud bang that made you pull over anyway?

I'm assuming the loud bang was the boot exploding. I was actually getting ready to swap out the plugs and oil. Was going to wait until after the holiday. hmmm... they were bosch plugs. Got them for free. Used them before and never had any problems.

it has happened to me. Crap plugs shoot straight out of the head. Thats what the bang was. If this every happens again shut the car of quickly then pop the hood, cause you can cook your dizzy(i did).
Just get new GOOD plugs and pray that it will thread in the hole that it shot out of will accept the new plug if not. then you have to helicole it.

So there shouldn't be any long term damage?

that should answer you. Just get it fixed and take it easy for a lil while. and make sure to check it from time to time.

what happened was it loosened up and from the vibration it unthreaded itself from the head and when it got to the end the compression stroke blew it out, try some new plugs, i hope they thread up for ya

That's what I'm hoping happened. About to go get new wires and plugs. See what happens.

I swapped out for ngk plugs and oem wires. Car runs fine. No problem w/ the threads. Only thing I'm concerned w/ is the electrodes were pushed against the tip. Still need to get those pics.

The old ones. They came pre gapped. I always double check them just in case before install. Only on plugs from cylinder 1 and 4.
