Default Shock Recommendation

Hey guys,

I've got a question for you guys. I'm very low on cash, and I need a replacement for my stock shocks. I've got Neuspeed Race springs, 2.5" drop about. What would be a good shock that would mate up with my Neuspeeds, and not cost much? I only have about $250 to spend atm, but if thats not enough I can wait awhile. Im just looking for something that will give a decent ride and last, not something great, but better than OEM... Thanks alot.

James

Really I heard good things about koni yellows, but not much about koni reds.. how will they do? Are they good for a drop of 2.5" and with the neuspeed spring rates? Just looking for info, thanks

I would just save up and get yellows or illuminas. I dont think kyb can handle the drop without voiding the warranty.

I just need something thats decent, that will improve my ride, and last me about a year and a half until I can afford a better setup. Right now, I just need something soon to replace my blown stockers, that will be an improvement over stock (hopefully)

well koni yellows are adjustable, koni reds are not.

they are good quality shocks, and they will probably outlive the springs

really? Awesome.. so Koni red would be my best bet? And they'll be around $300 I've been told and seen at a few places.. well, Ill scrounge another $100 and try and find some. So this is my best option for this price range (or less) with these springs?

Koni reds or even the under rated KYB GR-2's. I've been running them in my coupe with neuspeed race springs for quite some time and the car is a daily driver/drag/auto-x car. GR-2's get a for price and quality. http://www.mmrusa.com sells the GR-2's pretty cheap, which is where I got mine.

You are correct. Koni reds are adjustable. But they can only be adjusted off of the car. I believe you have to push the strut rod all the way down and turn it one way or another for soft or stiff setting.

They are basically an OEM replacement with damper rates very similar to that of stock. Unadjustable of course. I don't know what your using it for but if AUTO-X is in the plan at all. SAVE up for adjustable. AGX's are killer. +for a cheap *** like me they fit the bill.

Mainly, its for daily driving. That'll be what its used for 90% of the time. But one day I would like to autocross when I find the time for it, its something I aspire to do in the future.
