Oh.. duh.. i think i need an allen wrench in the top of the shock to keep it still, I think.. while I turn the nut, so the bolt itself doesnt turn... hard to explain.. but i sat there and turned it for 15 minutes without it, is that gonna mess something up> lol..

You need to use an allen wrench or you can impact it off. Just hold the strut and impact the nut off. It'll come off because the impact has so much power.

just take the shock to a car shop, they should do it for $5-10. It is really easy with an impact wrench.

I hope you are installing new shocks.

make sure you have the right sized allen wrench.... get an open-ended or box wrench to take the nut off...

if you're not using the shocks again, just use locking pliers and grab onto the shaft of the shock.

Even if you're using the same shocks, use pliers up by the mount, where the shaft isn';t going to go into the body of the shock.

I usually use an impact, but I've done this a few times and no problems

Ill try with the pliars tommorow, thanks. Oh yeah, I took the nut off the first shock while everything was still bolted up, and letting the spring decompress while jacking the car up.. well.. this sucked, because I had to compress the spring while the shock was in place because it was too long to extend itself all the way, even with the damper fork bolt off... it would work if I had shorter springs, but not on the stockers

Could you elaborate with the pliars idea? The shaft I can't get to, because of the dust cover.. maybe if I keep compressing the spring enough?

Everyone knows how to do the plier thing. Get a pair of vice grips and clamp them on the shaft ABOVE the dust cap. You can push that dust cover all the way down exposing the shaft.
