Shipping an engine???

Re: (turbotime)
they usually go with whoever is cheapest...sometimes trucks are goining in an area that they need to ship to...so instead of setting up a certain company they see if theres room on that delivery...its alot cheaper for the company..i think shipping from hmotorsonline.com is around $200-$300?

here is the thing, steve gets a corporate rate with edi and watkins because he shios so much. it is not uncommon to be around 500 if you dont have an account with a freight company.

Where are you located? I have a pretty cheap place that I use for shipping my motors.. Typically 125-200 bucks, the only downfall about the company is they dont do door to door deliverys. They ship to from warehouse to warehouse which are mainly in big citys so who ever you were shipping to would need to go pick it up.

personal use generally is about $500 coast-coast, business is generally about $300 coast-coast and this does vary depending on the freight company used and their method of shipment. I know of one company back home in charleston, sc that ships all freight via air!
if you're trying to get these numbers so you can quote someone shipping of something you're trying to sell...go to the yellow pages and look up freight under shipping, etc.
also, go by the local dealerships and ask if they have any extra engine crates lying around. My dad does that when he sells engines on eBay from his salvage yard. They'll usually make you take the engine with the crate (core engine after being pulled from the car). Dad just tosses them in cars for weight when crushing as they're generally toasted. You could just take it by the recycler and get like $5 for it (mixed steel weight flat rate) and have the crate left over.
