shifter too loose
ok i have a 95 civic coupe. the problem is that when i put my car into gear the shifter is very loose. i have bought a skunk2 short throw shifter and installed it but it did not come with the bearings. so i used the old shank that goes through the shifter and the old bushing boots for either side. i also bought polyeurethane bushings for my linkage and installed them. what is the problem with how loose the shifter is.

i think you know what the problem is, you said it doesnt have bearings. Just buy an ebay one and sell yours if you cant live with it. And welcome to H-T

Usually, if your shifter floats around too much you need to install a new spring pin - or "devil pin/bitch pin" as local slang has named it - where the shift linkage meets the tranny. That, combined with new bushings and o-rings around the shifter-to-linkage portion of your shifter should do it.

Yeah, that bitch pin being worn out just a little bit makes a worl of dirrerence. I learned that when I lost the damn thing and just put a bolt in there to "hold me over". I thought it was in there pretty tight IMO, but my shifter was sloppier than a $2 hooker.

Re: (schardbody)
Shifter bushings are most likely worn. Look at them and see if they are worn out. This isn't rocket science people. Something doesn't work right then look at all of the related components that could cause it. You will find the problem. Cars aren't that complicated, especially Hondas.

Re: (JDM-97CX)
IIRC, there are about 5 bushings involved in the shifter, shift rod, and stabilizer rod (one of them cannot be separated from the linkage and must be bought with the complete shift rod). Any or all of them could be worn out or installed improperly. As mentioned, also check the spring pin. If there is a bolt installed in place of the pin, remove it and install a new spring pin; proceed to strangle whoever put the bolt in there.
I'm not sure how the Skunk2 shifter is configured, as far as the eye and bearing(s) where it bolts to the shift rod; not all aftermarket shifters are the same. Do you have a picture or a diagram? Did you swap over or replace the cage bushing that surrounds the pivot ball when you installed the new shifter? Are all bolts tightened properly?
What shift linkage do you have? You wouldn't happen to have a B-series engine with '94-01 Integra shift linkage, would you?
