I have a 95 Civic Dx with a b16a Swap......and even though im in gear i can still rock my shifter back and forth as if i am in neutral..... n e ideas on what this could be??????

Bushings. There is a normal amount of play in the shifter but if you feel it is abnormal examine them and change them out.

Number one cause for this is play in the roll pin. Its that bitch of a pin that you must install so the shift linkage holds to the tranny. Ill see if I can find a picture. BTW you didnt use a bolt where that pin goes did you because that will definitely do it. Otherwise try new bushings and a brand new shifter roll pin and all should be well.

Haha the bitch pin perfect wording.....n no I didn't use a bold I used the bitch pin....and I'm sorry I don't kno what bushings you are referring too .....n its more then a little play its more like I can move it from side to side reguardless of what gear it is in.....its jus a cosmetic ocd thing that I want to fix although its really not a problem ... I drove my boys car and when it was in first the shifter stayed in the proper spot that's what got me wanting to fix it..I appreciate the help

This guy has it right. I used a bolt (I know the OP didn't) and I have a sloppy shifter now. I'm going back with the pin after I finish with my build. I'll make sure and coat it really good with antiseize though.

Anyways, you'll have to get under the car and inspect what's going on. A LITTLE bit of movement (and I mean LITTLE) is amplified at the shifter. So make sure that pin is in there SNUG and that your shift linkage doesn't rotate (even a little). That is where your slop is coming from.

i have a b18 c1 my shifter use to do the same there are two bolts under the shifer replac or tighten them mine vibrated out

shifter stabilizer bushings. energy suspension make polyurethane replacements for the old rubber. much stiffer, cheap, and very easy to replace. these will make it shift like butter

That Lower Joint shifter bushing was my big problem with the shifter.
The stablizer and the shift rod bushing didn't help much for me.
But check the stablizer and bushing first, then check the lower joint shifter bushing

I too have the same problem, extremely sloppy. I bought a bushing kit, but it did not come with directions. Any pointers? Here is the set I bought:

Remove bolts, replace one piece of rubber with the other, reinstall bolts. It's stupidly simple...you shouldn't need instructions.

Also, you just bumped a 3 year old dead thread. Don't do that. Ever. Period.

If someone isn't willing to put forth less than 5 minutes of effort, and just expects information to be spoon-fed to them, quite frankly they don't deserve to be working on cars. Prothane actually has installation instructions on their website.

I'm not mad at all. I'm just trying to keep this forum from slipping further down into uselessness than it already has in recent years. We used to be the #1 car forum in existence. We aren't even in the top 10 anymore. Even for Honda-specific forums, we aren't in the top 5. That's just sad. Every new poster has the potential to be a great member of H-T, but if the niceties aren't recognized, this place will become a complete cesspool. The moderators do a good job, but the rest of us need to hold ourselves and our fellow forum members to a proper standard. I didn't start off perfectly, but someone set me straight. PMB, you didn't start off perfectly either, but you've gotten better.
