Shifter **** adapter
I recently purchased a new shift **** for my 2000 Civic EX 5-speed manual and the plastic adapters are really cheap and stripped out. Has anyone had this problem before? What can I do to make this work?

Re: Shifter **** adapter
The **** is from O'Reillys. It's this sleeve that goes in the **** and then you turn it on the shaft to cut threads in. The inside of the **** has no threads.

I know what you're talking about, I had one on my old truck and hated it. It had a smooth bore with a plastic cap basically that was inside and the threads went in that, and it had 3 little set screws.
Just go on ebay and find a cheap ****, they're like $7 and they work fine. They're one of the few things you can get off ebay and not worry about.

Ooh I know what your talking about. When I bought my car it had one of those *****, except there was no threads, and someone ghetto chopped the shifter with a hacksaw so it was just sitting on there. Whenever I would slam it into 2nd or 4th the **** would come off. Almost got in a couple crashes because of that :/

Nothing wrong with a little personalization...I'm just confused as to why you would replace a high quality part with such a low quality replacement, when there are so many high quality aftermarket shift ***** available.

Re: Shifter **** adapter
I have an autozone shift **** in my car, double stacked adapters, wrapped it with electrical tape, mashed the **** down so it was snug, and screwed in the set screws.

Re: Shifter **** adapter
Another great option: Acura TSX shift ****. I've had it on my Hatch for the past year. It has the 5-speed engraving on it and fits regular Civic shifters. Looks great and has OEM fit and quality.
It's around $30-ish from acuraautomotiveparts.com

Re: Shifter **** adapter
or buy quality universals. theres a reason to pay 50 bucks for em sometimes.
my momo shift **** has 3 little rubber stoppers with one of them that fits over the rod. then three little allen set screws. never had it move in the year its been on there. and im not very nice to my shifter.

Re: Shifter **** adapter
problem with the cheap universals is that not only do the little allen keys strip out, they back out as well. So if you put some blue loc-tite on them and screw them in good the 1st time, the shifter won't move.
