Shifter counterweight
My shifter if rubbing/getting caught on my exhaust. I don't want to lower the exhaust, as the car sits low already, and I've gotta make it over small curbs/speed bumps in the grid at the local autox's. It seems I could dremel a good portion of the counterweight to resolve this, but was wondering what effect this would have. I'm thinking of chopping it completely. What effect would this have on my shifting?

You shouldn't have a huge problem by doing this but I wouldn't recommend it. Those wieghts are there to insure proper and fluid shifting. You may start grinding gears a little bit but it wont be a huge deal. Very minimal if at all.

Well, that counter weight is there for a reason. I drove a guys car once that had the counter weight from the shift linkage cut off and it was not as smooth as stock, very notchy, but you could still shift fine.

Yeah I wouldn't mess with it at all. I have never driven a car with them removed like Two_K Si has but I do know it will throw the balance off quite a bit. I would just bend the exhaust down a little bit. I personally think it would be easier to deal with some scrapes on my exhaust than trans problems.

No, he had mugen bushings which are very hard rubber. Im not saying that it wont shift at all, but it did not feel as smooth as stock without the counterweight on the linkage.

I don't think it's the counter weight that did it. I have a stock shiftlinkage w/ a DC short shifter and Prothane shifter bushings and my shifting is NOTCHY AS PHUNK (but that's the way I like it)

Guess what.
My Spoon Shift linkage did not have a counter weight on it.
Shifts fine.
The Notch feeling comes from hard bushings.
Just cut it off and don't worry.

Cool, I think I'll chop it then. My resonators already scraped at the height it is now, any lower I think it'll dent. (apexi ws & 2" drop eibach road race if anyone was wondering)

Alrighty, I chopped it. There really isn't a negative effect form it. It's a little harder to notice when you get into gear. Less notchy I'd say. Feels good though and no more rubbing. So anyone wondering about this, go ahead and cut it, unless you realllllly like the way it feels now, then drop your exhaust a little.
