Default Shift light

Hey guys,
I drive a 98 civic coupe...boosted GSR motor...and ive started taking her to the track..done decently well but im having trouble keeping an eye on the road and the tach. I need some sort of shift light, but want something small and discrete. I though for awhile about a shift beeper but i would much prefer a light. What i really want is one LED i can mount in the gauge bezel that will just light up very bright but i dont know how to control it. I know they sell those massive cannon with super lazer intensity, but as i said i really want something that you wouldn't notice daily driving...any ideas? Thanks in advance.

maybe get an rpm activated switch, and a small LED and mount it some place.

Default Re:

if you want an aftermarket shiftlight, they have multiple LED units that go ontop on your gauge bezel or steering column. the LEDs are arranged in a line of about 12.

the way it works is, lets say your redline is at 7K. at 5K, the outter 4 LEDs will light up green (2 on each side), then at 6K, 4 more LEDs will activate and light up yellow. when you finally hit 7K, the last 4 LEDs will light up red, indicating a shift.

sorry about the confusing explaination, but many people who roadrace their car use a similar item.

here we go, i found a picture of what i'm talking about:
