Shift cable replaced and check engine light now coming on???

Shift cable replaced and check engine light now coming on???
I just had my shift cable changed on my 92 Accord automatic.
Now the car is hard to start if it starts at all and the check engine light now comes on?????
When I turn the ignition switch on it appears to go through a self check then the D4 disappears. After several attempts the car starts and the check engine light comes on!
I have checked all connections and everything appears to be in place.
What could it be?
I have also tried to reset the computer by removing the pos battery lead for over 10 minutes, Not because I think it need it but because I need it!
