shell made daily driver on a budget? Worth a try

Hey i currently have a 1996 honda civic ex that i am having some issues with. The main one is insurance and all the crap i am paying on it. And i just dont feel like i am spending my money the best way.

So heres my idea. I see shell cars all the time. I am thinking about building a daily driver. Buying a 92-95 Civic coupe shell. Getting a b18b engine swap. And making it a little more comfortable. I think i can do this for a resonable price. What do you guys think. Anyone ever done this?

Im thinking (all prices are padded)
92-95 Shell- $800
B18b Motor swap and misc- $2200
other crap i need interior stuff and junk- $500

So im thinking i can do a 92-95 daliy driver for $3500 and ill know it was done well and hopefully not many big surprises.

What do you guys think? Anyone who has done it got any advice?

only problem is most of the time when u buy a shell car there is still alot of small things missing and whatnot, they add up quick as i am learning the hard way https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

ive done a b18b1 in my 93eg and i would start by saying have all the maint. done befor you put the swap in.Things like tbelt/clutch/headgasket...ect.. ect.I even had the stock head checked and done just above stock. All that will add up also,so figure that in as well.I did everything but the clutch(went broke lol) when i did my swap and sure enough 4k on the motor and clutch and cv joints where shot. Now im going to have to pay labor again instead of just parts that could have been easily added when it was all out still.but anyway i have around $4k into my swap alone but im boosting a 14b/10psi DIY kit.Clutch/cv`s and my wastegate im looking at $4500+ for a boosted b18b1 in eg and i would think around $2500 to $2800 would get you a set up that is going to be able to last.my swap was $1800 with labor and a few $100 morefor tha maint. parts that they put on for free.i started with a jyard block $300
BTW i ran 15.5 88.9 mph na with 13inch on front and a bad clutch and o2,should get high 14`s low 15`s with that swap and 12`s high or low boosted.

all im looking to do is get a 92-95 coupe shell put a b18b in it (ive been looking at hmotors online but i might try and do it cheaper) and make sure its got good interior and air.

Do you think i can do this with 3000 easy?

get a shell put sohc vtec in it, save up, do junkyard turbo kit https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

i'm feelin what simplegreen says... Get a shell, put sohc vtec motor...turbo or nitrous the crap out of it...because if it goes out on you...their cheap to restore!

im not really looking to boost immediately maybe later on as this is my daily driver and it wont see the track. I am also shooting for as reliable as possible

I think you might be aiming your expectations of $3000 a little bit too outrageous. My friend is selling his shell of the EG-sedan and MAN....ITS MISSING ALOT OF SHIT! Definitely more than $500 worth of stuff. Also, the full swap is gonna mean alot as well. If you get a SOHC VTEC it will be much cheaper and you may be able to hit that $3000 mark...

Good luck dude! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif

Re: (DBLAZE)

i think im just going to try and find a full car here locally that has engine problems or something and try to get it cheap.
