Default shaving the side molding... um actually shaving them

ok i thought bout takin the side moldings out of my 00 hatch but then that would leave holes and are costly(from what i heard) to fill correctly. and also instead of shellin out money(which i don't have) to buy them shinner jdm one's i was thinkin can the stock side molding be shaved/cut/sanded down to look like the jdm one's? don't really care if it doesn't do its job anymore. anyone that have taken them out kno if they will still hold when thinner? thanks

The mouldings are there to protect the sheet metal on your car. (Doors, fenders, quarter panels,)
