SHaving roof gutters
I have a 94 hatch and i wanna get rid of those rain gutters on the roof , can i just fill them in with filler after i take out the rubber or do they need welded shut? Anyone have any pics of this done? Thanks

If I were you, I'd keep them. But if you must 'shave' them, I'd recommend having them welded instead of just filling it. If you use Bondo or something, it will shrink over time and cause the paint to wrinkle/peel/crack.

Kid in my autobody class did it. Keep in mine that in autobody you work on your car straight for about 4 hours a day (long *** class) for 2 days a week. That kid took 3 semesters to get his gutters somewhat good, working only on gutters.
They are the hardest thing to shave. You cant bondo it because it will crack in a min. And when you weld you have to be extremely careful to make sure you dont warp anything because once you warp it a second its all downhill and its almost impossible to fix it (thats what happened to the kid).
But if you do it good luck. You would be a A+ autobody guy if you could pull it off with no problems.

IMO it doesn't look too good. Save yourself money and time and put it elsewhere.

Whats IS the main purpose for the gutters? Always wondered why they are there in the first place.

keeps water from running down the side glass. Old cars had chrome window trim gutter that looked like gutters on a roof of a hosue sort of. So when you open your door in the rain it doesnt drip on the seat in the car.

skip stitch weld would have kept it from warping. as you said once its warped its all down hill. Ive seen it happen to someone before. No need to shave roof gutters imo. Side moldings look good but how many times do you ever see them done right. Its either cracked from bondo or warped cause someone didnt know how to properly do the job.

Actually Bondo doesnt move. Its the metal that flexes in the heat or cold of a day. Since the bondo respond as fast as metal does to temperature the bondo will crack. Thats why using minimal bondo is best when repairing or customizing any top panels.
3M makes a glue that bonds roof panels together instead of having to weld. That glue is very strong and is like concrete to the touch when dried. You can use that to splice a strip of metal to shave your gutters.
But like many others here have said, I personally think shaved gutters on a honda look like crap.
Mike!

another purpose those gutters serve is its one of the main flex points in your car...it will not last long at all, save your money, and your headaches

Re: SHaving roof gutters (crxsiperf)
I seen it done and it looks great. Thats if your doing it to a showcar. I don't know what performance disadvantage it may have on your car, but it does look sweet.
You would weld long strips of metal to fill in the gutters.

Re: SHaving roof gutters (fastest)
Sorry, I don't have any. I don't keep in touch with the guy anymore. But I plan on doing it in the future. I think it would be more aerodynamic, but some might not agree. Makes the car look like a sports car. Oh yeah, my friend had an 96 Integra coupe. I have a civic coupe. I don't know how it would look on a 92-95 civic, but my other boy did it to his 91 hatch and it still loked sweet.
