I basically have the head off the car. Since Its off, I planned on taking it down to a local and reputable engine shop located down the street. I wanted him to disassemble my roller rockers clean them and reassemble. I figured I'd have him clean the head and pressure test it. He said he can mill the head for $35.00. Sounds very reasonable to me. I was thinking a little boost in compression for an extra 35 bucks isn't a bad deal. Now I'm not to familiar with this at all. I thought just to shave .010" off in case of warping in the future. My question is how far can you shave the head down before you start having timing problems? I have an adjustable cam gear but not sure if I want to mess with it much. Suggestions?

i think after .015 you'll need to do some adjusting, or it might be .025.. hope someone gives a better answer than mine

If you have adjustable cam gears, would it really matter? You can just keep on adjusting them. I'd worry about piston to valve contact, but hey, that wasn't your question.

Yeah that was another concern. Will i have to adjust the valves or timing even if i just shave .010"? I don't want to mess with the cam gear just yet I still don;t have a good way to tune.

valves no, timing...idk. You probably could, it will be off, but just a hair.

You wouldn't really have to tune just gaining a small bit of compression, and if you're keeping the stock valve timing, it would probably be ok. It's like when you put a header on, it'd be good to adjust for it, but it'll still be safe if you don't as long as you don't get wild with the setup.

Please...for god sake, get a tune anyway. That extra compression will benefit you more with a good tune. You shouldn't have the head off with plans of modification unless you plan to tune.

I plan on tuning, I just don't know exactly how yet. The hx is a bitch to tune and I'm yet to find a legit way to tune. I want to keep the stock ecu because I've heard changing it to obd1 doesn't work.
