i removed the civic and DX emblems from my car using high heat from a hair dryer, then using floss to get it off. i removed most of the grey gunk, but there is still some left there that is visible from up close. what is they best way to remove this without damageing the paint?

i used goo be gone also, i would work with it for a couple minutes, then wash it off with some water. then repeat!
worked really good, just got some nasty blisters on my fingers because i didn't want to really use any hard tools on the paint. good luck!!

"Goof-off" definitely works better than "Goo-gone". Try that and you may need a mild polishing compound if you see a shadow where it was (because the paint hasn't aged with the rest of the car.)

Go to the body shop and have them hit the spot with an eraser wheel. They use those to take glue and stuff from emblems and sidemouldings off. You'll just have to lightly buff the area after your done.

I am going to a technical school for autobody and the best is to use a little heat, 3M adesive remover or super clean and a plastic razor blade. DO NOT use goo gone the solavents in it are to strong and will take automotive paint right off

thanks alot guys... so it looks like (while trying to avoid paying a body shop and avoiding ripping my black paint off) that using heat and 3M adhesive remover is my best and safest bet?

Didn't really read the whole thread, but lighter fluid works well. Make sure you don't use to much though and wash your car when your done because if not

i recommend waxing as well, even if its just where the emblems were, anything to get the gunk off is gunna leave the underlaying paint prime for damage from sunlight, so after its done park in shade and wax on... wax off...
