Shaking, what the hell?
Okay so I half-assed my search and I didn't see anything. I just picked up a 00 Ek and the thing shakes like hell after 60mph. Its really irritating. Whats the deal?

make sure no mounts are broken or cracked...even the tranny one.
or really, if you just bought the car make sure they are all there haha.
is the car extremely lowered?
check the tires, I've seen a case or two of nimrods putting tires on the facing the wrong way......shakes very violently... and rips the threads all to hell.

check your ball joints, more specifically the ones at the end of your tie rods. I've seen a few cases where the car shakes at high speed (60+mph), replaced the ball joints on the tie rods and the problem was gone.

Could be a bad tire. Or a wheel out of round. Or a bad alignment. Or a motor mount. I had a Rota once that wouldn't roll right out of the box. Looked completely normal, but if you put it on the car, in the air, and spun it, it would wobble from side to side.
There are a lot of potential causes for this. I would start by checking tire pressure, treadwear, and look for any bubbles in the tires.

yeah I must say, the dude put an intake on here so who knows what else could be wrong. everything checked out OK, but you know sometimes hondas get hacked so bad there's no turning back!
I'll check the tires, but they are brand new. Wondering if it is my ball joints? How am I gonna be able to tell?

I too just started to have this "above 55mph" in my case shake start after a tranny replacement and clutch job (DIY job BTW). I know my lower ball-joints are torn up, but they were before this job. Only thing I did differently is I rotated my front tires...but I'm pretty sure they're multi-directional. I'll have to look more closely into it over the coming weekend. Oh, all my mounts are poly-filled (DIY job).

My father used to run a '91 dodge dakota, the last time he bought tires for it he said "is balancing extra?" "yes" "don't balance them then" they guys looked at him kinda funny i guess, but his reasoning was he was going to run this truck for less than 1 year, he'd already owned it for 12 and it had almost 400,000kms on it. He just didn't want to spend any more money on it. So yeah, sometimes you will get tires that aren't balanced, and sometimes they just aren't balanced correctly

if you jack up the front end of your car so that the wheel is off the ground and try to turn your tire (left or right) and it moves then i would say its your ball joints on your tie rods. It works best if you lock your wheel.

good info... jack the front end up and lock the steering wheel... try to shake the wheels. if you got any free movement, side to side back and forth or anything then you might be looking at suspension bushing the LCA or maybe balljoints or tierods..
but since you saying that it only happens in excess of 60 mph, i would check the tires make sure like everyone is saying that they are pointed in the right direction if they are one directional tires, and if thats all fine go get your tires balanced. shouldnt cost more then like 15-20 bucks.
hell if you dont have a shop that hooks u up on work lmk, since your from the good ol' batavia i could talk to my guys at Tuffy's and find out what they would charge you to balance em and look to see if you have any worn out suspension parts. probally wouldnt be too much
*edit*
also seen in your sig that your lookin for a d16 trans, you should just call
Eric Japan Engines, Inc. - They are located in Chicago, i picked up a trans from them for 350 and it was pretty much mint mint mint. they maybe able to help you out with the B-Swap too.

I was going to say I've never seen a bad balljoint cause shaking. It might allow the tires to wear unevenly/cup wear, but not shake.
I understand you got the issue resolved with a tire balance, but I wanted to add this anyways. Different types of shaking:
1. Speed dependant - typically 55-70mph:
This is usually a wheel/tire issue as in balance (or lack thereof), bent wheel, out of round/damaged tire, etc.
2. Shaking under acceleration, but smooth when coating or decelerating:
Usually a bad CV axle inner joint, or worst-case differential/bearing inside transmission
3. Shaking when braking:
Well this is usually warped brake rotors/drums
The difficult part in diagnosing these problems is when a car exhibits more than one issue at a time, which happens a lot more than you'd think.

Thanks for all this helpful info guys...I'll try swapping rear rims for the fronts and see if my shaking continues. I did have a repaired and then rebalanced recently...so maybe somethings up with that!
