Default Setting the timing on a D16Z6 but with a catch; NO BELT COVER and a cam gear from another motor

yeah; thats right;
i obtained a d16z6; rebuilt it; dropped it in my ef hatch but i cannot for the life of me get the timing set right. The cam gear is not a stock Z6 gear and doesn't have the little notch on the bottom and i am missing my timing belt cover. I can set TDC on the block if i take off the crank p ulley but i can't seem to get the head timing right.

anyone know of a way that i can set TDC on the head using the distributor hole? is there a marking on that?

I also have an A6 cam gear that i could throw on there to set the timing with; would that work? or are the a6 and the z6 cam gears different?
