Icon6 setting timing

I just put a new Y8 in my 98 civic, I had to install the Distributor, Now I have the car running and need to check the timing. is there anything that I must unplug for the computer like on some chevys? also what is the timing supose to be set at? I'm having a just off idle bogging issue and think this could be the culprit.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
