Default Setting Airbags

94 EX coupe
So, I'm pretty sure I broke the clockspring/cable reel for my airbag. SRS light is on, no horn, I heard clicks when I turned the wheel. I could have sworn that I had the steering wheel straight and pointed the arrow up when I installed it.

Any advice or pointers on what else to do with a new one, or what I forgot, so I don't keep breaking them?

So, just so someone can search it later, I figured it out. I gathered from another post you have to take the new clockspring and count the turns to make sure IT is centered (not so much the steering wheel, though that needs to be centered, too). I could rotate it about 4.5 times total. Thus, I turned it all the way to one side and backed up a little over two revs, pointing the arrow up.

One weekend and I haven't broken the new one yet.

Also, if you think you broke the clockspring, you can check it by removing it and rotating it both ways. The one I broke spun a few times left and then gave resistance, but spun freely to the right. A good one won't do this.

Yeah, this happened to me about a year ago when I swapped my stock wheel for a leather-wrapped EG wheel w/cruise control. Since my DX didn't have CC, I had to swap the clockspring. I wasn't too careful taking the old clockspring out, nor was I careful putting the new one in. Sure enough, no horn, SRS light stayed on. . 1 new clockspring later, all was well.

I just replaced my leather wheel with a JDM ITR wheel w/SRS and had to put my old DX clockspring back in. I figured it would be toast due to my carelessness last time, but it went in perfectly. No SRS light and the horn works!
