Default service light vs check engine light?

well I bought a 96 hatch its an obd2 car with a 95 VX vtec E d15b7 obd1 engine in it. Everything is converted to OBD1 dist, alternator, ECu ect.

I haven't investigated on how the swap was performed. ie conversion harness or cut and splice method.

The thing is my CEL doesn't come on when I turn on my key. my SRS light comes on, but no CEL. there is a place for it in the cluster, maybe the bulb is burned out or maybe the wires aren't 100% correct.

also I am new to the 1996's what is the difference in teh service light that is below the speedo and the CEL. my service light is green right now, is that normal? any info or suggestions would be great. I am going to get a helms for this car and start reading, but in the mean time I thought I would ask here.

Service light is just basically a built in suggestion to go an see the dealer, in Canada green is the normal state of the car. Then it turns orange after 6000 KMs of not being reset and it turns red after 12000 KMs. If you do all your own servicing then you never need to worry about the service light, just how to reset it. I reset mine on my Accord and Civic every time I do an oil change, that way I never have to deal with some stupid orange or red light (I do oil changes every 4000-5000 KMs, time permitting that is...).

As for your CEL, if the wiring looks good, then the first thing I would check would be the CEL bulb. If all is ok with that then I think it'd be time to recheck the wiring a little more thoroughly.

Hope this helps a bit
