SERIOUS valve cover problems ... help plz
 

setup ---- b16a2 (99 si/sir) in 1993 hb cx

well i open up my valve cover today to adjust the cam gears ... anyways after im done i close the valve cover run the car for 15 mins to see if the gasket is placed properly and what not.... anyways some oil was coming from the front (the headers side)... so i decide to re-open the valve cover and either adjust the gasket or if needed buy a new one... but when i try to turn the bottom left and right screws the seem to be seized... they just turn and dont lift... every other screw opens up properly ...

so what the fcuk am i suppose to do???? has anyone ever had this problem???

any help is appreciated .. so someone plz help out a fellow H-T'er

try grabing it with a vise grip and pull up on them as you turn it and try to grab the threads on the lower part of the bolt. otherwise your gonna have to drill em out. im gonna look up something but give that a try..... hope it works out

ok b4 drilling them out try just cutting the head off of the bolt. Then you should be able to take off the head and get a better look at whats going on in there, if you should have to drill it out place plastic around the area your gonna drill and tape it down or whatever you have to do to be certain you wont get any shavings in your engine. if you do it right you should just have to run a chaiser to clean the threads or if it comes to it get a heli coil to repair the threads. Shouldent be to hard it sounds like just time consuming to do it right, and belive me you want to do it right if you have to drill otherwise kiss your motor good bye if you get shavings in there......

why did you take it off to abjust the cam gears?

but i would try useing a vise grip best chance

other then leaking oil it shouldnt be to serioues.
Ive tightened the nut down to hard on my h22 and the stud has its own nut at the base of it so you can take the stud out.

ohhh ok... so it wont mess up my compression??? or put pressure on he valves, pistons, etc... ???

dude every time u open the valve cover you have to replace the valve cover gasket and re-seal it

reseal it meaning just remove the old valve cover gasket and put on the new one and then put the valve cover on top? or is some kind of sealant needed? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

that is recomended but not necessary... if the old one works fine then there is no problem... the probelm with my valve cover was that the screws were warped/seized (i dont exactly know what happens) and would not turn all the way down THUS causing the seal not to be 100% sealed.

well if your gasket is fine then dont replace it but it must be re-sealed. go to kragen, au

The gasket is a seal. It says right on the package it comes in NOT TO USE ADDITIONAL SEALERS. Just wipe it down with oil before putting it back on.

you can put a little honda bond in the area where it isnt seating/sealing correctly, i know on my d16z6 it says to add some hondabond to the corners, so i think if you put it there for a temp fix untill you can retap the hole you'll be fine https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
