i've got a 99si, no cat........emissions this month (got a cat? i want it)

anyway, sensor is zip tied under the car for the past 1.5 yrs..........engine light is still so i don't know if thats an indication that the sensor still reads?

just wondering if once i get a cat if my sensor is still go'n to be good before i head off for emissions

The sensor still reads. You should have two O2 sensors and the second one is there to let the car know how the cat is performing. It must be thinking your cat is not working right and turning your check engine light on.

I would assume that the o2 sensor reads temperature.
If its just hanging its obviously cold and not getting any heat from the exhaust.

Throw a cat on and invest in a straight pipe if your really worried about the 2 ponies.

Your car won't pass without a cat. So you will need to do something at least temporarily.
