Semi-n00b Questions, bare with me please
Hey guys,
It's been a while since I owned a Honda, so please bare with my n00bish-like questions. A friend of mine is going to be selling his 98 EK soon, and I am seriously considering buying it. As of right now there is a JDM B20 in it, but if I buy it I will definitely swap in a USDM ITR motor. I was wondering if the swap (ITR in an EK) is very hard or if any modifications are necessary to do so? Also, is it hard to find a USDM ITR motor at all? I would only be considering '00 and '01 ITR motors, '97 and '98 are not an option. How much would a brand new '01 ITR motor be from the dealership?
Thanks again for putting up with my stupid questions that most likely everyone already knows the answers too on here.

why not just keep the b20? the usdm type-r is the most expensive b-series swap out there, and its not worth it to go from a b20 to the b18.. boost the b20!!

^ what he said.
the B18c5 swap is one of the priciest Honda swaps out there, and you won't see much improvement over your B20. You'd be better off boosting and tuning that bish.
edit: if you are set on the ITR swap, which'll prolly set you back >$3,500 then good luck.

My questions are basically, is the ITR swap easy, i.e. no modifications to the car necessary for fitment, is it just drop in? How hard is it to locate a 2000-2001 USDM ITR Motor and how much would it cost just to order one from an Acura dealership?

thats stupid that is extremly unreliable,
there is nothing wrong with geting a type R motor easy swap, and you will need to pull off the rear mount from the b20 cause you need it to swap that is if it is the correct mount (civic SI mount) oo and check out http://www.c-speedracing.com they have a great how too

if you are gonna be stubborn than here you go.
from honda you will be paying alot(8-12,000) for the swap. they can be bought for 3500-4000 over the internet. here is a link of places to get it from.

should have searched first.

Re: (GsR HtCh)
I think the guy might also want the ITR because you could easily pass smog with it unlike the B20 which cant pass. But the ITR is a straight drop in with a grip of wiring to do. First thing i would upgrade though is the mounts unless if there new. Have fun.

Sheesh, is the Type R swap not cool these days? It amazes me how often people think they know what engine is best for you, without knowing exactly what you even want from it.

Re: (JICEK9)
b16a2 price from honda
block-$2575
head-$2216
tranny-$2147
total-$6940 for block haed and tranny
throttle body-$563
intake manifold-$301
keep in mind this is for a b16a2, a b18c5 will be much much more!
way out of the question. IMO just get a ITR haed and ecu and smoke sum true ITR's for fun!

Re: (JICEK9)
Wait let me get this right..... You have a b20 in the car now and you want to buy an ITR? If you don't already own the ITR, then forget about it. It's not a difficult swap, but it is not worth the agrovation. If you want VTEC then just put a GSR or ITR head on it. That is what I would do. I'd use the rest of the money, that I had saved up, to to boost your b20.
