Seeking P07 Civic VX-D15Z1 swap LAF/O2 wideband wisdom
I am in a conundrum.
I swapped in a (jdm low mileage) VX/D15Z1 engine into my 94 LX sedan about a year ago and the sensor seems to be on its last legs, it causes the CEL to come on under moderate-high acceleration but can allow me to get upwards of 51 mpg when in the right conditions (and me reseting the CEL while driving, lol)
anyway, I have been looking for a decent price on a replacemetn LAF/5-wire O2 for a really long time but I am not sure if they are worth the price... time maybe, but not dollar amount to me.
I have chipped a few ECUs and am somewhat familiar with reprogramming these OBD-1 Units, and I have two extra P06 ECUs (I am sure at least one or both could be converted to VTEC) to play with. I also have an Innovative LC-1 wideband (basic) kit.
I have read and recieved feedback in the past that it is really complicated or worthless to re-program a P07 ecu (which already has a specific wideband controller in it) and perhaps I could spend the $200 on a replacement honda ready LAF sensor for it.
otherwise, my long term goals are to boost the fuel efficiency through bumpimg up the RPM crossover of VTEC-e to perhaps 3k rather than ~2500, as that would bump me up to roughly 70 mph with this transmission (sedan LX) and help with faster highway speeds.
I have seen that a lot of people take a standard VTEC OBD-1 such as P28 or converted from P06 and use the cheaper, 4-wire heated O2 and run a "P07" program on it, and that intrigues me a lot since I have one of those that works great but would likely keep me from running in lean burn mode.
I guess my biggest question is, can I somehow run an alternative Wideband O2 in conjuntion with one of these ECUs and maintain lean burn mode and 16-valve vtec when at higher RPMs?
if you have suggestions for other forums, please be specific as I do not haunt many others...
Thanks!
PS: I am leaving for a ~5k Mile road trip in less than a month so if there are serious suggestions you know to work let me know asap

Re: Seeking P07 Civic VX-D15Z1 swap LAF/O2 wideband wisdom
Think '93 - '95 California VX ECU, it's basically a P06 with P07 maps and uses a 4 wire narrowband O2 sensor. It should also be dirt cheap. Regular P07s and '92 only Cali P07s can't be reprogrammed. The space is there for the chip, but they do all sorts of weird things when you try to run off the chip.
Btw, did I send you a fuel line for this project a year or two ago?

haha yep the line works great
good info on the cali ecus... I am also thinking I could just modify/chip one of my P06 for vtec and whatnot and load that cali p07 map, however I don't think I have time before my road trip to do that and get bugs worked out

I thought that was you I haven't had to use that alternator yet, so in that respect It's doing a great job, I'm sure as long as I have a spare I'll never need it Resistor box ended up on friends turbo hatch.
Cali P07 is probably going to be cheaper that chipping the P06. Especially where Cali is so close to you. Just a guess, I can't see those ECUs being worth much over there.
Edit. I have one of those 5 wire widebands over here, but I don't recall ever being able to find out how to test it outside the vehicle like you can with the narrow bands. If you want to pay for shipping you can have it, but I have absolutely no idea if it's good or not.

Re: Seeking P07 Civic VX-D15Z1 swap LAF/O2 wideband wisdom
so yeah, i bought an NGK "24300" LAF sensor, and it came in a crushed Bosch Box with part number 13246 (which Oreilly's sells for over $300) but the sensor does not have stamped either 24300 or 13246 or even L1H1 for that matter, but it does have an "NGK" stamp on it and a thread pitch and a sticker that says "HONDA 36531-P07-003" (def not a honda thing to put a sicker on an O2 lol...)
anyway, this sensor did not fix my CEL problem, which codes 22 and 48 simultaneously (LAF + VTEC Oil Pressure sensor) so i am slightly upset...
a little tid bit of background info: this engine is JDM, it did not come with an oil pressure sensor, so i bought one on ebay so I could use my 49-state USDM ECU I have... I have not tried out any other Oil Pressure sensors, but is it a likely consideration that a bad Oil pressure sensor could cause both of these CELs to come on? or did I just #$%& up my wiring? (I am pretty sure it is good, I can get great gas mileage as long as it is under 3K rpms...)
sometimes I hate ebay... much more often than I am occasionally pleased
Side note that is important: I tried my old LAF/O2 sensor in a known working Civic VX tonight and it doesn't throw any CEL codes. I did not have time to check this new sensor I bought.
