Default Seafoam??

ok so i have recently bought a EK d16y8 with a 105,000 on it and i was wondering if i should use seafoam on it. I have never used it before and have heard mixed reports. i know that it can be used in many different applications on the engine from mixing in gas to trany fluid. Should i just leave the car as it is or take the chance? What else could i use that would clean up the internals but not harm anything? thanks for any advise

i was going to do the same thing to my y7 with 195 000 KM on uit but started reading that it eats up your seals and might spring a leak. for this reason i opted to not use seafoam

Gains (which are minimal) are not worth the risk in my opinion.

If nothings wrong with it, just do a basic tune up and call it a day.

If the motor's been taken care of, and since you only have 105k, I'd switch to synthetic. That will keep it nice and clean inside. Pop off your oil cap and see what it looks like in there... if its all gunky and tarnished, you can run a quart of tranny fluid (without overfillng it) for a day or two, then do an oil and filter change. I've heard great things and bad things about seafoam, personally Im not sure i'd use it.

Both my friend's and my head looked cleaner using Castrol GTX than when we used Mobil 1 synthetic. I'm not a fan of synthetic anymore

Really? I love gtx and i used to use it in my other cars, i use castrol syntec in my hatch and there isnt an ounce of tarnish on anything. And its at 182k right now.

Oh and my buddy has used mobil1 in his gsr forever, not an ounce of tarnish on that either. My cars with gtx were never gunky, but there was always that brown tarnish.

Yea I used to buy seafoam like it was camel lights.

the good from it? nothing. If your trying to fix your fuel system with it, it wont work, it will just re-clog.

Skoundrel, why arent you a fan of synthetic anymore? what engine are you using the GTX in and how many miles? im sick of dropping $7 per bottle of purple

If you're spending that much on purple, I'd get Amsoil.... You can go for like 25k or something on that stuff... I'd never go more than 10 but that would be worth the $7.00/qt

When I got my head back from the machine shop, I just decided to switch to GTX instead and when I took my valve cover off after 2000 miles, the head was soooo much cleaner than when I used synthetic. Theres nothing wrong with synthetic, but its just not necessarily in my opinion. I'd rather pay half the price in oil and just change it a little earlier/more often than buy synthetic thats making my head look all gunky and weird. This is on my All motor poorman's R B16A head/C1 block.

^^^it actually made my engine 2x louder, i dunnno why. not the exhaust tone, but it has some sort of whine to it now at around 2-3k rpms

probably not caused by seafoam, but exposed by seafoam.

Both my friend and I seafoamed our engines (D16Z6 and B16, respectively) and gained nothing from it. We didn't run into any problems but didn't gain anything from it either. No improvement in idle (it was already decent so ), no better gas mileage, no power gains.

People have ran into problems doing it exactly the way its supposed to be done.
