scs service connector
when you jump the service connector, you will be able to pull up the codes that you are throwing from a check engine light right? and also, will the codes from a B16A2 be the same codes used for a D16Y8? i found a list of codes for a b16, but i want to help my friend out with his car. he the dealership replace his head, and when we got it back noticed his distributor was loose, so i was gonna check the timing for him, and also what light on the dash do you look at to count the flashes? i couldnt find to much information in the arcives about this subject, mostly how to jump it.

it doesn't make a difference what motor it is, the codes are the same!

thats what i figured but i wasnt sure. now to check it you just jump the wire with a spade terminal, then watch what light on the dash?

yes, i usually use a paperclip. just jump it (with the car not running). one quick flash are 1's and long flashes are 10's.

alright thanks alot, and the check engine light flashes?? this is all new stuff for me, i need to pick up a helms manual..

With an OBD-II car, you're better off plugging it into an OBD-II scanner. You get more specific information on the problem that way. Jumping the SCS connector to read the CEL will just give you a general code.
Some auto parts stores (like AutoZone) will do an OBD-II scan for free. Just don't go with any of their recommendations on a fix, because most don't know what they're talking about and are just looking to sell you a bunch of useless parts . . .

well the general code will be better then nothing. bot of us are broke, so we cant afford to get a scanner. and no place around here will do it for free, let alone have the scanners themselves.

i checked at napa, our only part store, and 2 they have there are both over 100. ill be purchasing a nice set of tools here in the next year, and thats gonna be one of the things i get.

this is my friends car, but i was mostly curious about all of this stuff after reading up on how to time the distributor, and happened to come across this in my searching. never hurts to learn somethin new haha but i thank you guys for all the input.

buy a scanner, what such nonsense. they do it for free. if you have a car 96 - up, you just go over and tell them that you have a CEL and they scan it for free and tell you the code of the problem.

probably even further then that.. haha the closest walmart is 75 miles from me. 300 for anything else... got a napa though!

I did a search for Autozones near Frickr and the closest I got was I think 284 miles away.
