is it safe to bore a d16?
i decided to build up a d16. Not for turbo, for everyday driving NA. Im wondering if you can put ctr pistons in it. Or is it safe to bore it out alittle. Or does it need to def be sleaved. any info will be apreaciated. thanks

get it checked out by a machine shop, its probably safe. and no, there is no ****** way a ctr piston is going into a d16. d-series have a stock bore of 75mm. the b's have a stock bore of 81mm. 6mm difference? thats the entire sleeve!
how much bore are you looking for? how much power are you aiming for?

Im not really aiming for anything. Just want to do some work put it together, get it tuned, and see how I did. Im not taking my motor out of my hatch to do this, so if it doesnt work out all that great im not beat as far as a car go's. but idk, lets say 150-185hp

lol, not aiming for much? 150-185 hp? to the wheel or the flywheel? to make that much to the wheel on a daily driven d16 you'll need a turbo setup. d16's are single cam [with the exception of the rare dohc zc], and that limits breathing. a b18c1 makes 180hp at the crank, and thats w/ dohc vtec.
you say you wont be taking the engine out of the car? might as well- best thing to do is inspect everything, and at least balance the crank. check out the rod bearing journals, and get the cylinders honed, and the deck surfaced.
can i assume you have a non vtec, since you own a hatch?

i ment im building this motor out of the car, a nother motor. the one in the car now stays wile i do this one. and yeah im thinking about to the fly. Im thinking i can somehow get an electrical dyno through the ecu or sensoirs, im not sure how that works exactly.

you'll probably be using an accelerometer based device, it clamps to your windshield, you run a 0-60, and its accurate to ~1%.
best way to n/a build a d16 is have an sohc vtec, the d16y8 is recommended, if not a z6 and then put in an aggressive cam, adjustable cam gear, get high comp pistons, piston rings to match, polish the intake manifold, bore the throttle body, get a 2.5" catback, and so forth. get uberdata, crome, or hondata to tune. if you have the extra money, get upgraded valves, valve springs, retainers, and such to bump the rev limit even higher. maybe like 9000rpm- thats pretty much the streetable limit for a d16. if you're going for the higher rev limit, balance the crank. maybe push 160, 170 flywheel hp.
ecu tuning is critical. however, even more impressive than having more horsepower, is getting a tranny with shorter ratios. maybe a y8 or z6 tranny.
