Re: Safe Boost? (TurboEKcoupe)
Depends. What fuel system are you running? What PCM/tuning device? Do you have a wideband O2 sensor and display?
You'll have to get a dyno tune to be safe at any boost level. It'll also guarauntee you maximum power while remaining in the "safe" zone. If you install that turbo kit and cheap out by not paying for a proper tune, it'll never be as safe or as powerful as it could be.

with a good tune youll maximise what u can get safely outta it. I ran about 10 on stock internals but upgraded fuel system for over a year before i built everything right.

I push 8psi daily on the same motor setup as you. Almost the same mileage too! As long as you got the right setup it should be good. My boy pushes 10 pounds daily and he's still going on 140,000 miles. About 20,000 miles boosted.

Crome. It stands for Cui ROM Editor. It's really bothersome when people call it "Chrome."

Its all about tuning, u can totally destroy your motor on 3 pounds of boost expecially if its not tuned properly. 6-8 pounds is good for daily driving on a y8 if its tuned right Good luck. I love turboed single cams.

Re: (mrbigg9032)
With an "okay" tuner doing your tune you can probably boost to a good 200-250HP. With a good tuner you can push your stock motor to around 300HP as long as you upgrade your fuel system.
What kind of EMS/Fuel Management are you going to run? Crome, Uberdata, Hondata, AEM?
BTW- It's not the number of pounds of boost a motor can take, it's the amount of horsepower.
You may want to get a set of ARP headstuds. I just started having a head-lifting problem after about 6 months of only 7psi daily from a small turbo.

Ya, true. I've had a couple of my friends have to replace their headstuds and headgaskets.

Re: (808draggers)
A stock D series engine can handle 200whp. Some setups require 10PSI, others 6. It doesnt matter how many LBS of boost, 200whp is safe. Adding a thicker headgasket will lower your compression a tad, which isnt a bad idea. As for boost applications over 10psi you will need ARP headstuds, as the D series head lifts under boost. Theyre cheap. http://www.tunertoys.com
