???s for the smart guys.
Okay heres the deal. I bought a wrecked 96 Civic CX for almost nothing with a whole lot of parts on it. I put the car back together and now im to the tech. stuff. So this is where i need you guys. It has a 99or00 B16a2 in it with a P72 ECU i dont know if they are compatibale or not but i do know the vtec isnt working and im told thats the reason vtec isnt crossing over. O' and the car seems to run fine with the ecu but the A/F ratio gauge always reads RICH
second, Speedometer doesnt work, guy said it never worked. It has a LX or EX cluster in it so maybe the stock CX harness isnt a plug and play swap?
Thanx alot for any help. Im trying to get this car on the road soon.

What year P72 ECU is it, as in, what OBD type is it?
Also like someone else said the VTEC uses VSS signal in part to activate VTEC, so no VSS = no VTEC.
What check engine codes are you throwing? There has to be some codage going on...

Part of the reason you're running rich is that (presuming it's a stock P72) the ECU is for a larger motor that generally requires a bit more fuel. The other part of the reason you're running rich is that without a properly functioning VSS, your car will stay in open loop (aka limp mode) and will constantly inject more fuel than is necessary as a precautionary measure (a bit rich is always safer than a bit lean). As mentioned above, this is also why your VTEC won't work.

If its your VSS I think I have an extra, I changed it for something else and found out that wasn't what was wrong so I have the original still. Came out of a '93 EX (I think its the same? someone here knows), pm me.

I assumed that the P72 would be a major part of the problem.
I have no idea what gen. GSR it came out of. I know that the original ppl who put this car together worked at a Tuning shop and im just amazed at how many corners they cut.
While under the car i saw one 02 sensor hanging and the other looked welded in. But i think the one welded in goes strait to the AF gauge and not the motor.
Yes does anybody know if the EX VSS will work in a B16 tranny

it's sad to say, but you'll be suprised how many corner these"shops" take. glad to see you're doing everything yourself. not only will the build be better but more enjoyable.
as for the sensor, the ex and the b16 have different part numbers, but it's not to say it won't fit. i would try looking around on ebay or even junk yards. unless of coarse somone on here as already done this.
