Rust question
How hard is it to get rid off a small rust spot, about the size off a half-dollar, maybe smaller. Is it simple just a sand it down and paint it process or is it more involved. I'm mainly asking because I am getting a CX (finally) and it is flawless except for that rust spot. THX

Re: Rust question (Siturbohybrid)
You will most likely have to cut out that spot and a little bit more around it, then weld in or bond on a new piece of somekind of filler (metal, fiberglass, etc..) The rust eats the metal!! May not be so bad for an experinced body shop to fix! good luck,

Re: Rust question (rainmanEK)
is it sirface rust or cancer?? If just surface rust, you'll be fine just sanding it out with 40 grit, then smooth it with like some 120. Feather the sanded edges into the good paint, then mask off, spray some primer, some more, some more, some more, and then wet sand smooth with at least 500 grit. Go to your local PPG paint supplyer, have them mix you a rattle can of factory paint, and spray it. It wont look as good as a body shop spraying base/ clear over the panel, but it will look great if done correctly. It won't be a glossy finish, but if you lay down enough layers, then you can wet sand the finish with at least 1200 grit, and get some 3M Perfect It and polish it out after it's completely settled. Should be no more than 40 bucks for materiels, which is way cheaper than shop time

Re: Rust question (Emerica)
if it's deeper, you'll have to remove a lot with a grinder or so, lay some bondo to fill in the recessed area and repeat the above, or have a shop do it.
