Default running with REALLY low oil

ok so i know that my car leaks oil, but i just never took it too seriously. and today i went and check the dipstick, the oil level wasnt even over the minimum dot. and i don't even know how long its been like that. ive notice recently that my gas mileage seems to be worse. anyone know what other consequences might come ahead? thanks.

if the oil pressure light in your cluster is WORKING and never came on you dont have A THING to worry about.

oil pressure is the only concern, so if the light didnt come on the pressure was never low enough to cause a problem.

If you dont have enouhg oil, you can potentially harm your motor's internals. Bearings are a big culprit.

I was nearly a quart low and didnt notice it...then i spun a bearing. Fill the oil up and keep it that way. Just make a habit out of checking it regularly or you'll end up like me

...but now i have a good reason to rebuild for more power

I just replaced my oil pan today, real easy job, remove the header, drain the oil, unbolt the oil pan bolts and nuts, put new gasket on oil pan, reinstall, replace header, done, took about 1 hour.

well the drain plug threads are stripped and i am already running an oversized plug. and its still leaking quit a bit.

isnt there a certain sequence you gotta follow when you tighten the nuts for the oil pan?

low oil DOES NOT harm a motor.

LOW OIL PRESSURE DOES. if its not low enough to allow the pump to pick up air instead of oil then the pressure wont drop, and if the pressure never drops nothing will be damaged in the SLIGHTEST from lack of oil.

only when oil pressure drops is there a problem.

that picture of the piston up there has NOTHING to do with oil. thats catastrophic failure due to the piston and valves meeting. you can CLEARLY see the indentions in the dome, no scoring on the piston skirt and no damage to the ringlands, that is not oil related.

Below the dot means usually a quart low or more....hondas can run a quart, quart and a half low for a while with out having a major issues. I would suggest to keep an eye on it every few weeks...never good to run a motor low on oil. Older tired motors will burn and leak oil its normal. For fuel econ I would get a shop to run a motor vac, and do a full tune up, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires ect....
