Running LEAN!!
hey everyone,
My b16 delsol is running lean i believe, the plugs are white with some black residue on the top threads.
Buring coolant or running too lean....
Any idea how to fix it?

Is the Check Engine Light (CEL) ON?

Do a compression test on the cylinders (head/head gasket problem) if you think the engine is burning coolant.

Cel is on, I havn't read the code yet.
I just recently changed the head gasket and it may be the head is warped so maybe its coolant burning not sure 100 percent.

k heres the update: The cells are reading bad MAP sensor, Primary Oxygen Sensor, and Iacv.
I recently changed iac and is it that possible that that one is bad aswell or is there maybe a wiring problem?

I am going to check to see if all sensors are bad, by replacing them obviously. If not I am going to assume its a wiring problem

Re: Running LEAN!! (bigizsosexy)
when you replace the iacv did you reset the ecu? and the map has a lot to do with the way a car runs. it senses the pressure and lets the ecu know how much gas to give it. But then again so does the o2 sensor. It reads if its lean or rich and tell the ecu to give it more gas or less gas. So if both happen to be bad then it will run lean or rich cause it has no way of knowing if its running rich or lean. Hopefully this info will help you check to see if the sensors are bad if not you'll know what you dont have... 5 volts power, ground or signal. VOLTAGE
At 5 in.Hg 2.4 Volts
At 10 in.Hg 1.9 Volts
At 15 in.Hg 1.5 Volts
At 20 in.Hg 1.0 Volts
At 25 in.Hg 0.5 Volts
PURPOSE
The ECU uses the MAP sensor signal to sense engine load so that ignition timing and fuel delivery can be adjusted to maintain consistent engine performance.
LOCATION
The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor is mounted to the rear wall of the engine compartment.
CONSTRUCTION
The sensor consists of a silicon diaphragm and some support circuitry.
OPERATION
The ECU supplies a 5 volt signal and a ground to the sensor. A vacuum line supplies intake manifold vacuum to a small cavity under the silicon diaphragm which causes the diaphragm to flex. The flexing of the silicon generates a small voltage which is amplified by the support circuitry and used to modify the fixed 5 volt signal supplied by the ECU. The modified signal is then returned to ECU.
hope it helped some.

Re: Running LEAN!! (bigizsosexy)
Ok heres the update, Map sensor was changed out and cell 3 went off. Thats the good news. I changed O2 sensor ( with Brand new one) but no difference cell 41 is still on and so is cell 14. Those two cells i need to fix any ideas.

A grayish white tan color and soot on the bottom of the plug threads with a white electrode indicate a plug in good condition. No cause for alarm.

that will further make him run lean. clogged IACV and/or PCV means less air in the mix.

Why? Are you burning coolant?
Is there white smoke coming from your tailpipe?

14 is iacv right? yea its probably NOT the sensor. The IACV code will go off on alot of counts. Vac leaks and an improperly adjusted throttle cable are the #1 reasons for code 14/IACV
