Default Running cold, strange temp needle

b7/z6 mini me eg cx..

coolant topped off, oil level good.

I drove 45 freeway miles this morning and the temp needle was stuck below the C. As soon as i stop in traffic and idle for a minute, it starts to raise up to 1/4. I take off again, i have some white smoke and the temp needle drops below C again. The problem repeats everytime i idle for more than a couple minutes.

Idle is around 500-1000 pulsating/fluctuating/bouncing, whatever you want to call it. Havent checked the thermo yet, i've been reading that could be the culprit.

Yeah it's your t-stat stuck open. Replace it and you're good.

what about the white smoke tho? it only blows out in short bursts just AFTER idling. like i said i drove 45 miles mostly at around 70mph and i had no smoke until i hit a bit of traffic.

Oh, side note, since i have a cx cluster, how can i go about using an SI cluster and hooking up my tach? Does the cx tranny have a spot for a VSS? I have an aftermarket tach that is hooked up and working.

it is plug and play, even though there is no tach on a cx, all the wiring is there and the si cluster will be fully function.
