rs machines pistons w/hastings rings. Ring Gap too big?!? help pls!
Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I was gapping my top rings and i have all of them at .019" but i grinded too much off of the #3 cylinder ring. Its at .022". Would you recommend leaving it at .022" and grind the other rings to .021" and all the bottom rings to .024"? is that too loose? My comprassion is going to be arouns 11 to 1 if it helps any. Help me please

When I built my motor for nitrous, I ended up gapping the top ring to .020 and the second ring to .024. It's a bit on the large side but there is little to no blow by with a properly vented engine and I have 0 smoke at idle or WOT.
I am sure you will be fine going .019 and .023. Better to have them a little loose so they have room to expand under high heat than two tight where they can grab each other and lift a ring land.

Re: (Jay_Sensing)
thanx for the reply.
Thats the same thing i was thinking but everywhere i saw people where using those specs only on turbo apps. I saw some people using .012"-.014" for top ring when going All motor. What kind of venting system are you running on your engine if you dont mind me asking?

I run a vent from the VC and a vent from the back of the block where the PCV system used to be into an NRG catch can with a breather on top. In the new future I am adding 2 more to the front of the VC and a drainback. At the moment ventilation is more than adequate but the nitrous is going on soon and when both stages are on halfway down the track, it's going to need a lot of ventilation.
