Default RPMs are hopping how to do i check vacuum leak?

origionally after 5 mins of driving when i went to pull off my cars idle would drop to around 500. I could actually lightly tug on the trottle cable and bog the car down so much it would cut off. if i turned the a/c on my rpms would jump. I took off the IACV sprayed it with intake cleaner and I bought a used throttle body with TPS and MAp sensors. yesterday I put on the new throttle body and gasket. idled at 200RPMs for 5 mins then to rpms hopped 10 mins later it stopped and now it only hops when i come to a stop or push the clutch in. It only hops 2 times and then its fine.and now when it hope it goes up only 100-200 RPMs. HOW CAN I CHECK FOR VACUUM LEAK AND HOW TO CLEAN IACV. what else could I do.

take the intake tube off, and cover the t/b up partially with your hand and see if it goes away, thats what i've heard the most to easily check for vacuum leaks.

at idle your motor pulls air through the iacv so covering the throttle body opening wont necessarily tell you much. did you recently take off the IM or throttle body? make sure the gasket on your iacv (if you just removed it) is fresh. and also check your tps sensor, make sure its properly attached and plugged in.

I bought a throttle body off of a guy parting out a car. it had TPS and MAP sensor on it. that fixed my power loss problem so I think the TPS is fine. i scraped the old gasket of with a razor as well as the intake maniflod side where the trottle body bolt up. put on a new gasket and reinstalled all of the hoses and sensor plugs. marked each one so i wouldnt get confused.

The IACV and FITV induct air via small holes right before the throttle plate, so I'm not sure how covering the throttle body will help.

If you said you cleaned the IACV screen with carb cleaner, it should be ok.

You can try spraying Seafoam or starting fluid on your gaskets. If you see white smoke out the tailpipe when using Seafoam or a change in engine speed when using starting fluid, you have a vacuum leak at that gasket. Try this for the throttle body gasket, intake manifold gasket, and the point at which the IACV connects to the manifold.

the easiest way to find a vacuum leak is to get some carb clean or some brake kleen, put the little straw thing on, and with the motor running, spray the areas that could be prone to a vacuum leak. i.e., throttle body gasket, intake mani gask, vacuum lines and ports, etc. if the idle goes up when you spray someplace, there's the location of your leak.

alright maybe I was wrong. I just started my car up for the second time since yesterday and it starts up idling at 2000RPMs. Then after i drove around it stopped and when I pulled back in the driveway the rpms wouldnt stop jumping. it idled steadily at 1100-1200. Im getting frustrated.power loss fixed now this.what do I do?

i think putting your hand over the throttle body openning and see if the car wants to stall is the best way to test for a leak. if it doesn't want to die.. thenyou have a leak.
