Just to let you know, the wire can also be found behind the cluster. It's all blue.

If you look on the drivers side shock tower where the wire harness runs through the fire wall, you will see a small 2 pin service connector that is rubber banded down to the harness. The connector only has a single wire (all blue) coming out of the back, and small rubber cap over the end. This is the "service tach" connector.

- run the tachometer's signal wire through the fire wall
- take the rubber cap off the service connector
- stick the end of the signal wire into the pin hole on the connector
- put the cap back on
- rubber band the service connector back down
- check tach for proper operation
- have a beer
