Default rpm needle help

my srs light came on so i decided to just take out the bulb. in order to reach the bulb on my si cluster i had to take the needle off in order to remove the rpm cardboard **** which the bulb is under. so i pull the needle out, took out the bulb and pushed the needle back in. turned on the car and the needle jumped to 2K at idle when the engine sounded like 1K. i pulled the needle out a bit but this causes the needle to react slow compared to the engine (engine revs high but needle is at low rpm).

i took it out and put it back in and this time it revs with the motor but falls and stop, falls and stop. like if i rev to 5K and drop it the needle falls to 3.5K...stops a sec...and then falls back to 1K. what should i do?

first off.. the bulb is removed from the back of the cluster. did you remove it from the front ?(front being what faces you)
i would consider trying to pull the needle out and putting it back on. run the car so its warm and while the motor is running put the needle where it normal is.. but in regards to the needle falling you might have messed up that part so new cluster or replacement for that part.

yea i removed it from the front because that circuit diagram paper **** was on the back. so i took off the rpm face plate instead. i dont know how i could damaged it, i just pulled it out and put it back it.

how hard or soft do you put the needle in? all the way in or leave a little space?

i think there is a little space for play. usally you never touch those needles since they tend to break.

when you put it back on put the needle under the little stick that comes out then when you press the needle all the way in pick up the end of the needle and move it over the little stick..it should be fine then

i hope that wasn't to confusin

You broke it. You can buy a new tachometer unit for the cluster from Honda (it's $78), or you could source a used gauge cluster.

The needles are delicately calibrated and are easy to break. Leave them alone.

And have your SRS system looked at.

i'm pretty much fucked so i'm in the market for a low mileage cluster after i call honda to see how much it might cost to get this one recalibrated. stupid me...

It's cheaper just to buy a new tachometer unit. Those gauge clusters are in high demand and fetch a lot of money.

yea i was thinking about getting a tach but what are some good bang for the buck (no cheap stuff) ones. i've heard of autometer but they're right up there with a new cluster.

A new Honda tach for your gauge cluster is $78 + tax.

i think i know where the confusion is. Do you know that you can take the whole cluster out of the car with a couple of screws.

To get to the back, where the bulbs are. you have to take the cluster physically out of the car.
