Rounded thermostat housing bolt

Hey today i was trying to change my thermostat. I rounded one of the two 10mm bolts that hold the thermostat housing. This was because i used a spanner because the socket would not fit in because there was no room. So now im left with a rounded 10mm bolt. How can i remove this rounded bolt? Theres not too much room to play with.

Any help appreciated.

there's this craftsman "bolt-out" kit they sell at sears. it takes out stripped bolts. try vise-grips first if you can get it in there. what size are they? 10mm? 12mm? try hammering a 1mm smaller socket on it too. if its a bitch then get the bolt-out kit

Well i cant fit a normal socket in since there is not enough room. I've tried vice grips but to no avail. It is a 10mm bolt. I heard there are those things like a reverse drill, and also those sockets the bite into the bolt.

How much is a "bolt out" kit?

Thanks for the help so far

use a hacksaw and cut the bolt in the middle, just enough so that you can use a flat head screw driver to turn it.

i doubt there be enough room for that

order them online probably your best chance on getting them
or even take it to a shop to remove it

Re: Rounded thermostat housing bolt (tianporn)

drill off the head of the bolt with a drill bit almost as large as the head of the bolt.
once you get down far enough the head will break off and you will be left with just the stud. Take the other bolt out that you didn't strip (no offense). throw a rag in whole spray the threads of the stud with some P & B, put some vice grips on the stud and get that bastard out
done

Take off the starter ill give you some more room to get in there. I was wondering if both the bolts of the housing are the same or is the right one facing the distributor bigger?

It is a 6mm bolt with a 10mm head. Use a 1/4' drive socket.
