Default rough smokey start, random cutt offs on fully built motor gsr

Ok first off before people say use search button I have done a lot of research here on HT already but I want to verify.

On cold start up it's rough to start up I have to give it some gas. Once it starts it's lil rough to get going and blows out a big cloud of white smoke. After the smoke clears the car idles fine and stops smoking. Everything will run fine for some time (could be 40 minutes could be hours) then while in neutral car will just die. Have to give it some gas and lil rough to get it started but it will start again w no smoke and no problems. The only time it smokes is when car sits for a while and you try to start. I have only a very small small leak of oil somewhere by vtec solenoid (can't figure out where leak is. Replaced the gasket n re-silconed the crap out of it and still leaked somewhere by it). Car over heated only once pretty bad once motor was put together because temp gauge on cluster was broken. Never had any overheating problems since. Oil does not burn at all. No oil in coolant. No oil in exhaust part of head. Adjusted the valves twice since motor was built. Idle is good for the most part. Idles at around 500-1k. Car does have trouble starting after pumping a new tank but that is the e-vap so not too worried about that. But for the most part car pulls hard and has no other problems. I can drive long distance with no problems except that random cut offs.

I have a fully built gsr with I say no more then 7k miles on it and it has been tuned (tuned after 1500 miles for break in of motor) with skunk2 cams and all those goodies. It was broken in properly. Car is DD and not punched everywhere/day just once in a while and not too hard (so far ;p ). From all the research I think it's a blown head-gasket that is it. What do you guys think. All the help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry for being so long just want all details in there.

sounds like you found your own problem. your best bet is taking the head off and either checking it your self or sending the head off to a machine shop to have it re surfaced. i would agree with your conclusion, because i had a crx with a blown head gasket that the coolant would seep into the cylinders when i shut it off hot then let it sit for a while. was super hard to start when it was cold, and had the big white plume that you speak of

I will be installing a new HG real soon so hope this solves all of our problems. Little advice (some people may disagree but from my own personal experiences) you only need to put a few hundred miles to break in motor not 3k like others would say. Good luck with yours and I will post up my results when finished.

yes sir looks like that headgasket was blown. Start ups are great now. No smoke and first crank it fires right up. Doesn't look like my idle jumps up n down anymore. I can't say if it still dies randomly until I start driving it for a week. So I will keep this updated for a week. Also my car still needs a valve adjustment one more time which I will do in probably a week as well. Hopes this helps other people.
