Rough idle blue smoke smooths out but spark knock?
Hello all I’ve been reading these forums for years but just finally made an account. I’m having issues with my 94 civic dx d15b7. When I first start the car it will turn over and sputter, eventually it will start but have a very rough idle. After a few minutes of that it smooths out and the blue smoke disappears. Once it’s running fine around 1.5k rpm and onward it makes a knocking sound which I believe is spark knock. I’ve done a compression test and I got around 150 on all cylinders, I also seafoamed which didn’t help. I plan to adjust the valves and see if the timing is off.
currently I have the intake manifold pulled off, and I noticed a significant amount of carbon buildup almost 1/8th of an inch in all runners.
so could this be a problem of the valve seals leaking and timing is off? Because the blue smoke is always there, this car apparently sat for 5 years and was started occasionally. Btw the gaskets around the spark plug wells were completely sealed.
i just want a this car to run correctly because I will be using it for a daily. Any ideas on what’s causing my issues? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Like you said, adjust the valves and see if the timing is off.
Carbon in the intake is normal. When you have a bunch of oil, seafoam, etc in the cat and exhaust, you may need to actually drive a few miles to burn it out before it will stop smoking. In other words some or all of the smoke you see may not be from the engine just residue in the exhaust system.
