Rolled Civic into ditch :( Need your estimates/advice (6 pics inside)
The Story
I was driving home around 2:45 in the morning last Saturday from Seattle. I was on a poorly lit, quiet highway which I've driven for years. Well all-nighters from school caught up with me and I must have dozed off for no more than 2 seconds as I was listening to that shitty "1 step/2 step" by Ciara. When I opened my eyes I was hitting brush on the shoulder of the highway and went out of control when I tried to slow down and stop. My car rocked left, then right and then flips into the air and lands upside down in a grassy ditch. The ditch had about 3 feet of water in it. I thought I was in that unthinkable situation where I was trapped in my car and was ganna drown. But luckily I got out easily out of the passenger side door soaking wet. A couple street racing teenagers witnessed the event and were cool in calling the cops/tow truck and helping me out. Got tested for alcohol and was asked by the cop if I was street racing or if my car was modified (the kids were questioned too hehe) since it was suspicious that I drove a honda and was with these 2 kids. He believed my story and wasnt an A-hole. Luckily noone was hurt when it was all said and done
My question: Should I get it fixed up or sell it off as-is
My car is a 97' EX. But the engine has only 46000 miles on it.
Looking at the pics below, how much would it cost to get this car back to normal? I had the car towed to a car shop that charged $200 to pump all the water out of the engine bay. I tested it the engine today and it sounds good and starts up fine. The exhaust is still blowing out steam and the radiator is leaking coolant. Drove it a little bit and the tranny is just fine. The check engine light is on though and the D4 light on the dash is blinking?? The moon roof works fine and so do the electronics. The driver's door lock wont open the door all the time. Grill cracked. The right fender which isnt in the pictures is fine, the left front fender is busted. Interior is wet, but good. Oh and the dent on the rear passenger side is not as bad as it looks in the picture
How much do you guess it would cost to fix up the body? How much could I part out the car for as-is?? If I could get $2000+ I would sell it for sure. TIA

i think it looks fixable, replace rear window, get that dent out of the rear passenger side, and pick up a 99-00 front end- bumper/headlights/hood/fenders/radiator support, and i think it will be ok. am i missing anything else?

i agree. and you landed on the roof of the car... that's going to be a nice fix if you do decide to do it....

Um..the thing is its under my father's insurance policy and he decided not to get collision insurance for it. I was afraid even if I had collission, they would jack up my insurance so high it wouldnt be worth it anyway...

Roof damage (the back right corner looks lower than the rest of the roof), paint, frame damage maybe?

you'll be spending more money to fix that then the car is actually worth. If it was an insurance company looking at that thing they wouldnt even think twice.

Would you really want to drive that car knowing it had been rolled onto it's roof? You could've damaged something that you won't know about until the next time it's on it's roof...and then it's too late.

Part it out and make well over $2000. You will get more from people needing certain parts rather than for the whole thing. Set up an ebay account and get to selling. Good luck

that actually looks surprisingly good for rolling over
i would part it out... i wouldn't trust a car that's been rolled over...
i had a friend roll his 01 civic and the roof was smashed down and the car was seriously messed up... but he was drunk and going 90mph... got understeer in a turn, hit a curb, flipped over, nailed two trees, rolled three times, came to a stop on the roof... all he remembers is waking up in the drunk tank at the police station... he only had a couple scratches... now he's got a ton of tickets... the city is suing him for damage... and he lost his license... his first offense too

I wouldnt hesitate to get rid of the car unless you got the money to do a full transmission swap(5-speed) and engine swap( GS-R) could be a interesting project.

Thanks for the comments I think I might give autotrader or ebay a try just to see if I can sell it together as one. If that doesnt work I'll hit up the classifieds section and start selling parts. I'm just happy I didnt hit a telephone pole or hurt somebody in the process
