Default ROD KNOCK question

My D16 starting makeing a loud knocking noise at low to midrange RPMs. I checked and readjusted the valve lash so its not valve noise. is there a way to know if its rod knock or someting in the block without takeing it apart?

It sounds like you got a knock and if it is i know it sucks i just had mine rebuild but mine was messed up when i bought it. You have 2 options rebuild your motor or stick in a d15b in it ( which i have one btw lol) it cost me bout 865 to rebuild the longblock so its your choice what to do next

If it's knocking....well, there's no other way to put it, but you're [freak]ed.

Might as well start ripping that bitch apart and rebuilding.

Before something worse happens.

it was tunned for 17psi but most of the time i had it on 15, but i cant think of anything that would have caused it. I didnt build the bottom end so i guess the build was bad. any one know a reputable shop in San Diego that i can take it to.

It doesn't matter if it was perfectly tuned or not.

Motors all have different lifespans. One B16 may be a factory freak and last for [freak]ing ever untuned at say 14psi. And another B16 that's been fully built and tuned for 14psi may take a **** after 1000 miles of boost. You never know. Just like metals, even if they have the same atomic properties, they are never the same.

Have fun rebuilding that bitch.

And do it right too!

Always check your clearances/tolerances and make sure they're all to spec.

i would do the build myself but i start school on Monday so i don't have time. i gotta bite the bullet and take it to a shop OUCH, but if it costs more than 4k to fix at the shop i am just gonna swap in a B18. thanks guys.

To be honest, building a motor is not hard at all.

You just gotta know your clearances (Rod bearings, Piston rings, main bearings, etc..).
