RIP my dear JDM B18C Type-R. What next...
so today started out nicely and it started raining like mad animals outside when i was out playing pool. So when i got out to go home, i ran to my car and realised that i left my driver's window down like 1/4 inch (i don't have A/C.. zzz)
great. so my sparco's all wet, my interior is all wet. ahh what the hell, it'll dry up and i'll wash it. no biggie.
then visibility was so poor and i couldn't really see infront cept for this stupid truck that was in front of me.. before i knew it, i was in a little dip in the road and we were going through some water. and in the middle of it, i was still okay but the ****ing truck stopped. zzzzzzzzz
so the car died. had to wait bout 3+ hours (when it was still raining **** and was cold as fk) til the car was back at my garage. pulled the plugs out and shined in with my torchlight and all i could see was....
MY REFLECTION.
great.
what now?... i'm prolly thinking rods are bent, prolly crank's gone too.. dunno what's up with the block. do you think the head's gone too? gonna pull the head off tomorrow and see.
if the engine is toast, what's my next move? i'm going to be leaving the country (70%) in bout 8 months. rebuild it? get a USDM type r instead?
i can't go K cause i'm too broke.
man, it's a sad day...

Wow, that sux! I would change the oil and see how it runs. And the head is good so maybe only change your block out.

im voting to take it apart and see if its actually damaged first. my friends b18c5 hydrolocked because of a CAI, he waited 4 or 5 days and then cranked on it and started right up and ran normal. but at the same time that doesnt mean you got that lucky either, pull the head and see what you can see, then you'll know what to do....rebuild! oh yeah, and change the oil lmao

what does you budget look like if you say your "too broke"? is forged rods and high comp pistons with cams and option?

First things first, dont guess. Crack it open and have a look, it is prob not going to be good but you never know. After that I would say just rebuild what you have, new plumbing is ALOT cheaper then a whole new build. Your other choice is to just say screw it and send the whole car to me, Ill take the pain off your hands. I am a nice guy so I will pay freight.

Re: RIP my dear JDM B18C Type-R. What next...
i took the head out today.
head's good.
piston at differing heights so rods are bent. all 4 or 3 should be bent.
cylinder block LOOKS good.. will have to take it all apart to see for sure.
going to take the block out tomorrow
so now.. it's deciding what to do with the block rebuild.
p73-00 pistons with type-r/GSR rods - 11.5ish:1 CR
PCT (CTR) pistons with type-r/GSR rods - 13:1CR
i think i might just go safe and go back to the JDM ITR pistons.

Um... the pistons will be at differing heights normally. It's all part of the timing of the motor. The cylinders do not all fire at the same time. They go by the firing order: 1 then 3 then 4 then 2 I believe. What all tests did you do before pulling things apart?
It's going to be funny if all you had to do was wet-vac the water out of the combustion chambers and change the oil.

ummm no. firing order is like that but combustion, cylinder 1 & 4 is up together and 2&3 is together for the next cycle.

I had this same situation happen to me and i changed the oil and sucked the water out of the spark plug holes and fired her up no knocking and no valve tap.......it did misfire for alittle but once i drove it for a couple hundred miles everything kind of worked it self out.........still running to this day

damn, bad things always happening on here. before you rip the rest out make sure its not just the water and oil.. that same thing happened to my friend and he let it dry out and changed his oil and plugs and was good to go.
if you get rid of the motor or part out let me know. i might need some of the jdm itr stuff for my coupe. good luck!

Change the oil immediately and try to start it. Cyphen the water out of the cylinders by any means necessary. By your description, it doesn't sound that catastrophic. After you change the oil, drive it nicely and note any odd sounds coming from the engine. If there is a bent rod or other damage, it should make itself known rather quickly. I wouldn't go tearing into it just yet...do all that you can now before admitting total defeat and ripping her apart. If it is bad, you could always replace the single rod or all the rods. You could replace rods and pistons...you could build a forged bottom end. The possibilities are there if you know what direction you want to go.
Also, i doubt the crank is bad after that. If anything, you may have to get it machined a little bit, but it takes a lot to toast a crank. You seem to be preparing for the worst when really you dont know if it is wrecked or just unhappy with you. Try my suggestions above and let us know how that works for you. Good luck
