The right grease for squeaky rear exhaust joint?
I've got an exhaust joint near my rear axle that needs lubricated a bit. The flanges on that joint are squeaking at idle and at stops. I've got some Super Lithium EP Moly grease out in my garage cabinet that I use for just about everything. I have no idea what the dropping temperature of it is... I'm guessing maybe 400-500F? Will that work for this application, or should I go get different grease?

I plan on it, once I can get the bolts on the thing to break loose. They're out there soaking in Aerokroil right now. I'd like to use a little grease on the flanges then too, to prevent further noise, though.

I'm pretty sure that once new gaskets are installed, the squeaking will be gone.

By the way, a squeaking exhaust is sometimes caused by cracks in the exhaust pipe or muffler. You may want to check for that.

Yea, I checked that out first. I got under there this morning with the car jacked up and took a look around. The muffler is almost brand new so it's fine. The little pipe between the muffler and large pipe is a little rusty, but not cracked. I'm still just waiting on these flange bolts to bend to my will and come loose. I keep hitting them with penetrating oil every hour or so. I'm getting tempted to ask my neighbor to bring his impact ratchet over.
