RHD steering rack on LHD subframe
converting my car to RHD, modifying existing firewall instead of swapping in new one. Will a RHD steering rack bolt in to a LHD subframe, or do i need the whole frame. I can get the whole subframe from england for $84 plus shipping, but if i can use just the rack, i can get a lot cheaper shipping obviously.

Re: RHD steering rack on LHD subframe
well on the ek its a symetrical firewall in terms of shape. im welding up the old holes for the MC and clutch MC, creating them on the opposite side, cutting the hole for the blower motor, welding up the old one. the only harder part, is cutting off the drop out where the steering rack goes through the firewall and adding that to the other side. in terms of strength, i believe the structure of the car will be better doing it this way than to cut the entire firewall out and replace it. plus i get to keep my windshield in so that saves time.
plus i dont have to tamper with the vin on the firewall. big no no in rhode island lol

here is what i've accomplished so far. pedals are mocked up. need to make backing plates from steel to weld in the holes so its a perfect fit. of course its not gonna look like factory, and i need to modify how the pedals are so they go to the left a bit. a torch and a mini sledge will work.
note - this is not gonna be a 100% oem conversion obviously. I'm showing how i would do this on a budget, and maintain the cars structural integrity without risk of my welding skills failing on the firewall swap.
