Default reving to 8 grand of a D16y8

I am going to be getting some headwork done soon and I was just wondering if I can put just arp rod blots in while the oil pan is off the car and still be able to rev to 8,000 rpms

Would I have to change all the bearings if I am just putting in rod bolts
thanks

ps does any d-series guys know what a d16a6 piston in a Y8 would make the compression be.

The stock honda rods have a very good bolt to begin with. You dont need to change them to ARPs. You will break the rod in 1/2 before you break a bolt. The stock d-series valve springs are quite good, so 8000 shouldnt be a problem on a pretty stock motor. There is no point in reving that high unless your engine can make power up there though, so get a good cam and you should be set.

thanks for the info
I know that the d-series are known for spinning rod bearings left and right, I just wanted to make sure.

Yea ive spun a far share. But there is nothing wrong with the rod bearings, the d16 uses the same rod bearings as the b-series motors. Same journal size. Its mostly the b-series has a better oiling system. Keep up with the oil changes and treat your motor with care and it will last along time.

I'll suggest a greatly improved valvetrain or I can damn near guarantee you're going to float a valve up there. Not to mention unless you have a different cam you aernt even going to be making power up there.

unless you wanna blow the engine before a swap. But even then...might as well pull it and sell it. Or keep it around for later...you know...just in case.

oh yeah i do plan on upgrading springs, retainers, camshaft. Thats what headwork means to me I don't know about anyone else. I wouldn't ask a question like if i wasn't going to do those upgrades
